There are almost 100 different pistachio nuts, each with its own shape, structure and taste. In this blog, you will discover where pistachio nuts come from and how saffron pistachio nuts are made.
The origin of pistachios
Pistachios originally come from Persia, where you can still find the highest quality.
The climate of Persia with long sunny days during spring gives the pistachios plenty of time to extract a maximum amount of nutrients from the fertile soils.
Today, the pistachio tree is present throughout the whole Middle East today and even in China, Egypt, Italy and the USA. But the quality from Persia remains unparalleled.
For our webshop, we selected the Akbari pistachio, one of the most appreciated varieties in Persia, which is known for its long shape, dark colour and a unique taste palette.

How are saffron pistachios made?
Pistachios are always boiled in water to get the nut open. Then they are dried and sprinkled with a little salt. Saffron pistachios are soaked overnight in a solution of saffron and then roasted at a moderate temperature.
By combining the world’s best pistachio nuts and the most refined saffron, you get a unique sensation to turn every dish into a divine experience.
6 health benefits of pistachio nuts
Did you know that pistachio nuts are not only very tasty, but also extremely healthy? Eating pistachios regularly is good for your energy, your immune system and a healthy heart, among other things.
More energy
With such large amounts of vitamins and minerals, it is not surprising that pistachios are so healthy. The nuts are rich in vitamins B1, B2, B11, C and E; and the minerals potassium, calcium, iron and magnesium. Especially the B vitamins are directly linked to your energy levels. Vitamin B6, for example, along with iron, helps build hemoglobin in the blood.
Stronger immune system
Pistachios contain more antioxidants than most other nuts. In this way, they protect your body against all kinds of cell damage, which you incur through an unhealthy lifestyle, but also through excessive sports.
The vitamin B6 ensures, among other things, the support of the lymph nodes and the production of white blood cells, which are an important part of the immune system.
Protection against cardiovascular disease
The fats in pistachios are 90% unsaturated. Scientists suspect that pistachios reduce arteriosclerosis, balance your blood pressure and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. For a noticeable effect, you should eat about 45 grams of nuts per day. The healthy unsaturated fats also help lower blood cholesterol.
Stable blood sugar level
Pistachios have a low glycemic index. That is, they have almost no effect on blood sugar levels. In the short term, this means that they provide you with stable energy throughout the day. In the long term, they help you to prevent type 2 diabetes.
Healthy eyes
Pistachios contain the most phytonutrients of all nuts, as well as a whole bunch of polyphenols. Among many other things, these plant substances have a protective effect on the eyes.
Masculine Power
Last, but not least, pistachios contain a large amount of the amino acid L-arginine, which helps to widen the blood vessels. Research shows that eating 100 grams of pistachios per day leads to more and stronger erections. Nothing wrong about that, right?
